Presents ostensibly like a post-#MeToo tale, but evolves into a fascinating, multi-faceted exploration of grief and trauma that understands that emotional repercussions don’t often arrive as explosive “set piece” moments but as subtly corrosive threads that can undermine any section of the day-to-day life, especially when the surrounding days-to-day continue on as “normal”. It’s perhaps a sad note to say that the material here is overly familiar, but Victor’s insightful triple duty as writer, director and star elevate this to something special, with rich supporting performances from Ackie, Hedges and almost movie-stealer Lynch applying some visceral charge to Victor’s sedate narrative.
