The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
I really can’t be too hyper-critical of this dated but still well-produced and enjoyable adaptation (even as a kid, I was fearful of ever falling under the seductive spell of Kellerman’s Turkish Delight!); what’s surprising even now is how well it captures the literate tone of Lewis’ story without ever feeling like a WONDERLAND knock-off; while clear budgetary issues cause minor credibility problems at times (especially in Aslan, who I remember being far more convincing when I was 10), this might be my favourite of the adaptations I’ve seen of this story, with the “Passion of The Aslan” sequence especially creepy and haunting for its evocative rather than graphic nature. Great fun, though possibly beware if you lack a pair of nostalgia goggles.
