The World of Apu
Even more so than the previous chapter, this will test your tolerance for gale-force melodrama, but taken in concert with the earlier chapters, it’s difficult to undermine the achievement Ray has accomplished here, showing the full gamut of risks and rewards of rising and striving from poverty stricken origins, to well-read and literate success, though the overarching message seems to be that you can be as smart as you like, but you’ll never out-wit fate or destiny! Seems more artfully and carefully constructed than the previous entries, with Ray displaying an almost painterly eye at times.
