Them

At its most effective in its very opening minutes which create a genuinely disturbing and unsettling centrepiece of terror that the rest of the movie can’t quite live up to – while an appreciable amount of time is spent establishing the layout of Lucas and Clemintine’s country house, Moreau and Palud do surprisingly little with it once the home invasion sequence starts, instead making their characters go through the motions of standard operating procedure bad and/or pointless decisions; it also doesn’t help that the true source of the threat is barely believable as the malevolent force it is depicted as. Still, there’s something to be said for a film that fits in to the ”New French Extremity” movement that’s not too painful to watch, and Bonamy and Cohen throw themselves into their roles with the requisite blood, sweat and tears; I just think this has been done better and more powerfully elsewhere.
