Plays more like Chan’s answer to the oafish Depardieu/Veber comedies of the 80s, rather than the expected martial arts spectacular, and I do wonder if the weight of expectation made me react more strongly against this; it is a too broad and silly romantic comedy, spiced with some mildly energised chase sequences – it’s not until the finale when Chan finally goes into balletic grace mode that the film comes to life, but by then it’s too little too late. Amusing to see Edelman clearly speaking English, but dubbed by another voice-over actor!
