Although I think Billie has multiple songs that are very well-produced and wonderfully performed, I would not define myself as a big fan as I don't listen to her stuff that much and all. So with that being said, I am not really the target audience for this and I totally get that. Yet for me, I felt like the long runtime was a little much and there were definitely a few sequences that could've got the snip. I don't think it's a self-indulgent length as I think the intention is to give fans as much footage as they would want but for me, it was just that little too long. In terms of docu-construction, I would say that it's fairly standard. The insane story of her growing popularity is enough to hold the film without too much flashy production. However, with that said, the film certainly could've made some editorial decisions more engaging (especially how I know Billie likes animating her drawings and the stop motion aesthetic) it could've been nice to draw in those influences for artistic and narrative intimacy. It's a very traditional music documentary and for such a visual performer, who constantly says how creatively driven she likes her work to be, I expected more from the aesthetic quality of the piece.
