The first act of this film had me pretty gripped. The black and white thing never felt like a gimmick as every element of the film worked to create a truly authentic Classical Hollywood vibe. The dialogue was a real feat in those scenes I thought. Felt like I was watching a Cary Grant film at times and that was impressive. However, as soon as that section was done I was very bored. The story was barely moving. I don’t feel like I know any of these characters deeper than the surface level. It’s a shame cos Cooper is clearly a very talented director. It’s stunning. But where the hell is the plot guys?!?
