Soft & Quiet

Yuck yuck. I did not like this and not for the reasons one would expect. My main problem was I wasn’t too sure what it was saying. It also genuinely disturbs me when a film tackling such a touchy subject uses it as a tool to do some torture porn. And I’m normally down with exploitation cinema but when it’s this close to reality and doesn’t serve a real resolution, it kind of feels like the filmmaker is going “look how far I’m going. I’m crazy. Look at this awful shit”. I want more of a statement then just showing evil people doing evil things. I get it. Obviously this terrible shit can happen but when you’re making a film about it I feel like you have a moral obligation to explore a resistance to what your supposedly exposing. And why was this a one-r? It didn’t serve the story anything in my opinion. I would’ve had the exact same experience if they just had a normal edit on it. Also for a film called Soft and Quiet they were bloody shouting a lot weren’t they.
