The Borderlands

Mark Kermode seemed to think the ending of this film was truly horrific so I thought I'd give it a go. The acting in this film is pretty poor and that kept on taking away all the fear for me. The number of times one of the main characters said the word 'dude' got to a point when it stopped being a character quirk and got genuinely annoying. Now I was watching this film alone in a pitch-black room, earphones in and full volume so ideally, this should've really got to me. The last 1o minutes had some good sections and the sheep scene earlier on was very effective but overall I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe it's due to the fact I've been getting into lots of exploitation and torture-porn cinema and so it didn't deliver on shock alone but usually supernatural and psychological horror get to me loads more than traditional gore or body horror. I think this was one of those situations where a film has been hyped a little bit so when I eventually got into it, it could never live up to praise. I'll go for a very average 2.5 although the ending took me a little by surprise.
