The Celebration

Wow. Super brutal and upsetting but feels really human at times. Now the rest of this review is all gonna sound a little wanky so be prepared for that. I’m a very visual movie-watcher. I love looking at the style of a film, the cinematography and the intention behind shots and finding meaning in that. But the Dogme 95 movement cuts all that stuff out. It looks super amateur at times but that’s the point. It means that the acting and storytelling shines through and it really worked for me in this case. I remember when I watched The Idiots, I thought the story wasn’t strong enough so didn’t really connect with the ideology of the movement. But boy do I understand it now. Meeeoowwww!
