Under the Shadow
The films title refers to the hidden nature of a hijab and how many women see it as a lack of identity. This film is extremely intelligent and reminded me of the babadook in its deeper meanings. The film is basically an analytical look at forced religion placed in a horror film. The X of tape used throughout the film already places imagery of boundaries like religion. The 'monster' being a faceless hijab shows how the mothers main fear is being pigeon holed into someone else's beliefs. The tooth faced girl links to her aspirations of becoming a doctor collapsing on her family and the husband being dragged away is almost as if she is slowly separating him from the family. Extremely intellectual and sophisticated however I get the ending was meant to be mysterious with the wind but the film was far to short.
