Inherent Vice

Forget it, Doc, it's Chinatown. Not sure why I put this one off for so long, but it took me being trapped in an 8-hour flight to watch it. It was a big, messy breadcrumb trail of a mystery and I loved every minute of it. A lot of quietly funny parts that had me cackling by myself in row 43. *ring, ring* "Idiots Unlimited." Oh, yeah, I'm in an evil mood myself tonight. The relationship between Doc and Bigfoot is one of my favorites now; doesn't make a lick of sense until a certain point in the movie. Doc's paranoid yet impassioned and sincere outlook was a nice change from every cool, slick, quietly tortured gumshoe that haunts every other stick-rigid noir. So, anyway, in a nutshell I guess that Joaquin Phoenix was robbed of the Academy Award for Dirtiest Feet. He wasn't even nominated!
