There are parts of Homestead that worked for me. The setup is interesting, the survival themes are engaging, and several members of the cast help elevate material that otherwise feels fairly routine. Neal McDonough is particularly strong, bringing conviction and gravitas to a role that could have easily been forgettable. A few of the supporting performances were solid as well.

My biggest issue was the ending. The story spends most of its runtime building toward meaningful resolutions, only to pivot into what felt more like a setup for future content than a satisfying conclusion. I understand the desire to expand the story, but the cliffhanger left me feeling like I had watched the first season of a show disguised as a movie.

The pacing is uneven, and some characters are more interesting than the plot surrounding them. Still, there are enough good performances and ideas here to make it watchable. Unfortunately, the ending undermined much of what the film had built along the way.
