Aftersun
sophie, i love you very much. never forget that. - dadi randomly remembered this movie existed and started tearing up just thinking about it so ofc i had to rewatch!! honestly, i feel like rewatching this movie kind of puts you in the shoes of sophie rewatching it as an adult. you see all the signs so much clearer, and you almost beat yourself up for not piecing it together earlier. i mean, the scene where he crosses the road without looking?? how on earth did i not catch that on my first watch wtf š
his idea of recording everything on the camcorder was definitely so that she would have something nice and substantial to remember him by, and the fact that we know heās financially struggling but bought one just for this trip UGH. the rug and polaroid too :(((
on their last night when sophie asks why they couldnāt stay there forever, he never actually answers her question. in hindsight, this scene is HEAVY. his silence mightāve been him realizing that in some ways, he kind of will be, since this would be sophieās last memories of him.
donāt get me started on the rave scene. iām actually sick to my stomach. calumās very last scene being him leaving into a room with the strobe lights⦠i am. not. in. the mood.
āyou know, i want you to know that you can talk to me about anything. as you get older, you know? whatever parties you go to, boys you meet, drugs you take.āādad!āāno, iām serious soph. iāve done it all and you can too, i just want you to promise me youāll talk to me about it, okay?āāokay, but iām never gonna do any of that anyway.āāthatās okay, too. but if you do, remember, okay?āthe fact that he said that even though he was already coming to terms with his decision :( i kind of interpreted this as him letting her know that heād always be there with her, always be listening, even if he wasnāt physically there.
iāve said this before but if this movie was about a mom and her daughter i think iād genuinely wouldāve passed out from dehydration halfway thru cuz of how much iād be bawling but⦠lowkey⦠on that note⦠iād be down for one!!
