It's just so good to see a film playing with genre conventions only to try and break some of them -- most heartbreaking airport scene of all time; the fact we are not actually watching Wil and Viv's love story just yet, because Wil is still getting her shit together regarding so many pressures (mom having a baby/living with her, grandpa's oppressive family values, working long hours as resident and when will she finally come out?), while Viv has a more modern family and is openly gay, her career being the 'only' issue. Marriage scene seems the perfect encapsulation of the film's bold proposition of combining melodrama and comedy to tackle this timeless war between crushing traditions and longing for personal dreams.
