Just to elaborate a bit:

McAdams is unhinged. Even when she's acting "normal" as an office worker, you can tell that she's going to go off the rails. And I enjoyed her. Seeing her holding a shotgun with blood all over here, or watching her eat a diamond, etc, that's all good shit. I wish this McAdams was in a different movie (can still be made by Raimi).

And it's not that there aren't good moments. For example, when Dylan O'Brien tries to escape on a raft and can't, that was satisfying because fuck that character. But the plot twists are predictable, the character work as a whole is not great. Nothing is surprising here because everything is given away, whether it's us seeing too much or the characters being written in a way that it's obvious. So you have a plot that isn't especially exciting and you have characters that aren't that well written. But it's also never in awful territory. It's just kind of mediocre.

Whereas I enjoy the campiness of Evil Dead immensely, gore is not a selling point for me. Raimi has obviously done that beautifully before, and I suppose for people who want that stuff it's decent here. But having a desert island movie where the main selling point is simply that it's sillier and gorier than a lot of them doesn't really sell it to me.

What I mean when I say "I don't especially love movies like this" I mean movies where people are trapped on an island. There are good ones, but it's not a premise I love, so I understand that part of this is on me. But I did give this a fair trial.
Mini Review: It's deeply flawed with some good stuff, but it's not awful. I just wouldn't recommend seeing it, though I understand I'm in a minority here. McAdams is absolutely up to the task here and is by far the best aspect. But I don't know. Maybe it's just because I don't especially love movies like this, and Raimi's brand of horror comedy and splatter felt out of place, honestly, while not being as good as his prime.
