I watched season 1 and I was immediately put off after watching the first episode. The ghosts were too many and really annoying. It eased up over the next few seasons, however by the end of season 1 I just felt uninterested in continuing. They should have reduced the number of ghosts and increased the depth of their personalities. Instead everyone just yells something that is in line with the one or two traits their character has.

Mike and Alison are decent yet also still pretty flat as characters. Mike never once interacts with the ghosts beyond fixing a boiler. Why wouldn't they all sit down and communicate for example? There isn't really any revelation in the fact there are ghosts. It just goes from we can't see ghosts to oh there is a whole gaggle constantly yelling at us no biggie. Thats the most grating thing, the entirety of all the ghosts constantly are in a huddle yelling all the time. Whether it be with each other or with Alison. There are frequent scenes with dialog where ghosts are just yelling on top of everything. Good comedy can be loud but it doesn't use it as a crutch. I notice many comedies that aren't actually funny seem to constantly utilize yelling to try and scream at you that something is funny. That is a central aspect of this show. The writers seem for the most part to treat all the ghosts as a single unit because there are just too many of them I suppose.

I doubt the trajectory of the show is that the couple helps each ghost move on individually or that the couple and the ghosts learn to work together and it is through this unity they fix the place up and make it sustainable. That much was illustrated at the end of season 1.

Because there are too many shallow characters whose sole purpose is just to stand around and yell constantly, and the lack of any character or plot progress, I think I'll stop at the end of season 1.
