Part 5: Agent Carter, ‘Season 2’

Season 2 of Agent Carter starts considerably faster and more action-packed. We immediately move cross-country and are filled in on multiple things that have happened to our characters over the past year. The plot for this season holds strong like the last though less concise and structured. It feels a lot looser and more chaotic, and that’s not a bad thing; it just makes the season feel a lot more unpredictable.

Most of this is due to the heavy focus on sci-fi and science in this season. I don’t mind the influx of sci-fi, and I actually think it makes for a good stepping stone to up the stakes this season. Also, it provides a better way to explain what is happening and why. For example, the main villain of season 1, we didn’t know why he could use mind control; we just accepted it. This season, anyone with supernatural powers is explained.

Now, my massive gripe with this season is such. Why is nearly every single side character from the first season cast away? Really, only five characters from the first season are even relevant, and they are all main characters: Peggy, Sousa, Jack, Jarvis, and Dottie. All other side characters, with a few exceptions, are never seen again. Like Peggy’s best friend, is only shown once in this season in a dream sequence. It’s a shame that, after such a good first season of casting, most of those characters are never seen again. It’s what led to a decently lower score from the first season.
