Still not sure where so much good will comes from, within Berserk fandom and the broader anime audience, for this adaptation. Is it just nostalgia?
The choice to leave a pivotal element of the protagonist's backstory as only a vague implication, even though it informs so much of his character, his arc and the themes of the manga, kills this for me. Of course, in comtrast, the sexual assault scenes of a female character, including as a child, are not cut, just slightly toned down.
And it's not even as though the anime plays to the strengths of the medium at least. Neither animation, nor art direction particularly stand out.
Some might take much bigger issue with an abrupt ending. Either way, just read the manga.
