We discussed a scene from this in class. It was really effective and scary then, and so was the entire movie for me (and 3 friends watching this). Intensely dreadful, claustrophobic and liminal.
I don't mind the way the dialogue was, the score, and general dread for how inevitable the red doors seemed was enough to keep me fully hooked. The entire thing felt doomed plotwise, and the emptying scenes and increasingly liminal spaces were great. The sound design for the scenes of ghosts contacting people was insane, and the mold spore shadows are such a cool visualisation (along with the peeking behind the veil we had in the beginning). hell yes movie, immediately one of my fave horror movies simply for how scary it is, despite not having a singular jump scare or even stinger.
