Stranger Things - Season 2
This review contains spoilers
Every episode this season, except for Episode 7, is tightly paced, packed with meaningful plot progression, and balances its ensemble cast really well. Season 2 builds on the first by introducing several new faces to the group—and I loved the teamwork this time around. Even when characters made questionable choices, it still fit their personalities and never crossed into annoying territory. Everyone got their moments to shine too, which made it easy to root for the whole crew.
This epi9 is the all-out final showdown, and everyone gets their moment to shine. Jim Hopper and El finally reconcile—I absolutely love this father-daughter duo. They may not be related by blood, but they’re family in every way that matters.
Poor Max though—earlier Mike kept pushing her away, and now even El shows up and she’s still kinda left out. Her only real highlight this season was standing up to her abusive brother Billy Hargrove and finally breaking free from his control. On the bright side, she’s moved past all that and found her own group of true friends.
Steve Harrington… man, he’s either getting beaten up or on his way to get beaten up—it’s almost comical. But hey, he’s found his calling as the group’s unofficial babysitter, and he’s oddly good at it.
Looks like Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler are really serious about each other now. Though, wait—did Nancy and Steve ever officially break up?
And then there’s Will—the poor kid can’t catch a break this season. Possessed, forced to be a spy, stuck in bed… and this episode? He’s nearly burned alive and then branded with a hot iron by Nancy. Absolutely brutal. Thankfully, he regains consciousness later, and the Upside Down influence finally leaves his body.
El manages to close the gate to the Upside Down, and the episode wraps with a sweet school dance where pretty much every kid ends up with a date—adorable.
But then, in a chilling final scene, we see that Cthulhu-like Mind Flayer still lurking in the upside-down version of the Byers’ house… What is it planning? Really looking forward to the battle that’s clearly brewing next season.
