An adaptation of Bertold Brecht's first stage play written in 1918 at the age of 20 as his reaction to a drama by Hanns Johst on the life of the poet Grabbe. The late Rainer Werner Fassbinder plays both poet and anarchist Baal and himself, roaming through forests and along motorways, greedy for booze, cigarettes, women and men.
