A doc addressing the sociopolitical climate of the early '30s, which urged Chaplin to make "Modern Times", and the shift to sound films that had already occurred. It's notable how, as pointed out, "Modern Times" is only partly a talkie, since the only voices heard are transmitted through machinery, while in all other circumstances body language, sound effects, music and dialogue cards do the trick. What's most enjoyable though is the Dardennes' detailed analysis of the film's characterization.
