Clapham Junction

A better title for this would have been "Gay Bashing: The Movie". At least until the the guy has sex with a 14-year-old boy...but then there's more gay bashing and all's right again. Quite depressing. Rupert Graves stands out, possibly because he's one of the only characters we meet without a glaring personality defect.

Although at its most basic, this is activist cinema -- a call to end violence against gay men -- it's bolstered by complex, novelistic characters, a strong sense of their interconnectedness within a particular urban geography and perhaps most of all, performances that nail both things down, particularly from an iconic & mature Rupert Graves (Maurice). Director Shergold's hand is assured & his passion for the subject is palpable.
