After outgrowing its initial premise by the end of the first season, Cougar Town gains a degree of self-awareness that makes it a much better sitcom. The "Scrubs" running jokes are pretty funny, as is the reciprocated "Community" reference, and the fact that they hold a funeral each time an absurdly large wine glass is broken. A light-hearted show, with a lot of heart that is elevated by its ensemble cast and whimsical characters.

Although I stopped watching it at one point (not for good and I will definitely continue watching it someday), I really like this show. It's funny, it's fresh, it's silly and Courtney Cox stars in it. That's all I need for a good sitcom.
