If you want a version of das boot that's more soap opera than drama then this is the show for you.

Season 1 to 4. Should have stuck to the submarine side of the story and minimized the filling drama on land to a minimum.

Great story, great performances. I'm looking forward to Season 3. Enjoyment factor 40. Intellectual factor 38.

Really good tv. Worth a look.

Taken alone, this was a really good mini series. Whilst the original concentrated mostly on the U-boat and crew, with its almost palpable filth, grime, claustophobia, metal creaking and diesel noise, the new series widened out considerably. The boat now seemed secondary, running completely silently, with as much space as a nuclear submarine, and so it is the land based action of the French Resistance, retributions and the german occupation that take over and build the tension, quite brilliantly.
