The show lacks the CUH RAY ZEE fun that the games have and instead opts to be some sort of bland drama that takes itself too seriously. As a huge fan of the games, this show was largely disappointing.

The games aren't exactly known for their plot and/or character development, and this anime somehow has EVEN LESS of both. More unfortunate is that it tries way too hard to be dramatic and serious, lacking almost all the cuhrayzee and self-aware cheese of the games. Even for a fan of the games there is little to enjoy here, not even the action scenes, which are kind of cool but go by so quickly you'd miss them if you blinked, a very bizarre direction for a show based on a series of ACTION games.
