Agreeable portrait of Dickens' life is very much of its time and station as a 1970s British TV series; has its ebbs and flows and spends too much time is dedicated to Dotrice's irritating hamming as the snivelling senior Dickens - he fares well enough as the older incarnation of Charles, though it's Foad in the middle age period who is most successful and indeed the "success" years are the highlight, even spotlighting a cameo from Kingsley as a faith healer!
