A pair of brilliant, award worthy performances distinguish an irritatingly directed and structured teledrama, which can't trust the considerable power of Macy's performance to anchor the drama, and instead relies on an overly maudlin, syrupy score which too often dominates. A frustrating, choppy structure which lurches from one incident to the next in Porter's life also doesn't help matters. But Macy is brilliant (and unrecognisable) and Mirren is his equal as his tough-as-nails mother.

macy is wonderful as a physically challenged salesman whom you can't help but root for. the strong supporting cast adds alot to this film as well.

A great performance by Macy elevates this over mediocrity.
