A young boy by the name of Asahina Daigo was once rescued by a fireman. Ever since then, he has wanted to become a firefighter like the hero who saved him from the flames. Now he's all grown-up and has recently received his credentials as a firefighter. However, the firefighting brigade he is assigned to is the so-called "Me-Gumi," the nickname of the Medakagaoka Fire Brigade, which at first glance seems to have absolutely no fighting spirit whatsoever.

Ratings & Reviews
Daigo Asahina (Takayuki Yamada), an 18-year-old with a bit of a wild streak but a sense of justice that rivals anyone's, passed the highly competitive firefighter exam and graduated from the fire academy after six months of grueling training.
Daigo responded to a rescue call and saved a cat that had climbed onto a roof and couldn't get down. His “heroic deed” was even featured on the TV news. However, Daigo—who was eager to finally prove himself at a fire scene—found himself getting teased by his teammates in the Me Group after they saw the news footage.
The members of the Me-gumi team were visiting Medaka-ga-oka Kindergarten to conduct a fire drill. The fire department regularly visits kindergartens and schools to conduct fire drills as part of its efforts to raise awareness of fire prevention and disaster preparedness.
Daigo (Takayuki Yamada) loses the dog tag he always kept close to his body during training. It was a precious memento given to him by the firefighter who rescued him when he was left behind in a fire at the age of nine. The dog tag was quite old and bore the inscription “F531.”
Kanda (Koji Matoba), the rescue team captain from the Chikuni Police Station, arrived at the Medaka-ga-oka Substation. Kanda was the person Amakasu (Takashi Tsukamoto) looked up to, and he was also in the same class as Akahoshi (Shingo Kuzuyama).
Daigo (Takayuki Yamada) had recovered from the injuries he sustained during the rescue operation at Yamabushi Industries and returned to duty for the first time in a while. When he arrived at the substation, he found Taira's (Ken Ishiguro) son, Yuki (Kenta Suga), there.
The Me-gumi team received a call to respond to a rescue mission. A woman was reportedly about to jump off the roof of a building. Daigo (Takayuki Yamada) and his team rushed to the scene and were shocked when they saw the woman. It was Akemi (Atsushi Fukasawa), the cat's owner whom Daigo had met during a previous rescue mission.
A TV crew arrived at the Me Unit. Perhaps because of this, Captain Taira (Ken Ishiguro) and the rest of the Me Unit seemed more excited than usual. However, the crew's real target was Mahiru (Rina Uchiyama). They were planning to produce a documentary series focusing on female firefighters. The director (Masato Kohara) requested a shot of Mahiru spraying water from a hose.
With transfers and promotions approaching, the members of Team Me continued to work hard toward their respective goals. Jun (Mimura), who aspires to become a paramedic; Akahoshi (Shingo Kuzuyama), who is preparing for a promotion exam; and Hakase (Yoichi Nukumizu), who is taking the hazardous materials handler exam, were all fully focused on their studies. Amidst all this, Amakasu (Takashi Tsukamoto) announced that he would be taking the rescue exam in a month's time.
A fire department funeral was held at the Medaka-ga-oka Substation for Ueki (played by Moroshioka), who had died in the line of duty during the fire at the Resource Reprocessing Research Center. In addition to Station Chief Gomi (played by Takeshi Kaga) and the rest of the Me-gumi squad, Ueki's former colleagues also rushed to the funeral to bid him a final farewell. Around the same time, Daigo (played by Takayuki Yamada) was lying in a hospital bed.
Daigo (Takayuki Yamada) and Amakasu (Takashi Tsukamoto), who were taking the rescue service entrance exam, faced the final event of the physical fitness test: the 1,500-meter run. The qualifying time was 5 minutes and 10 seconds.
