Creating a documentary that takes the measure and conveys the excess of Bataille's character and work is no mean task: this attempt is just fair. Focused mainly on his fiction. I went to Vezelay, but did not go to the cemetery to see Bataille's grave.

I do find something very appealing about Bataille and his work, but I am not quite sure what that is. I think part of it is that he was a philosopher in an authentic way that is the opposite of Wittgenstein, whom I intensely dislike as a fraud. I need to read more of Bataille's work (I've only read 'The Story of the Eye' and that was years ago). This film might just prompt me to do so.
