I thought Jane Horrocks did well playing the role of Gracie Fields. I didn't know much about her before seeing the film.

My main issue with this is that the brief running time (75 minutes) doesn't allow for much in the way of character development, so all we end up with is a potted biography of Gracie Fields between 1939 and 1945. You could get much the same by reading her Wikipedia entry. The background music is also very intrusive and at times it gets a bit saccharine and sentimental. It has some good comedy moments, mainly involving Hollander, but overall it's not that interesting.
