The good: absolutely beautifully shot; the photography was outstanding and the sets superb (other than Pip had to row about 30 miles up river in order to get out his boat!). The bad: This was all "great expectations" and absolutely no conclusion. It took 5 episodes to develop the story and just 1 to completely wreck it. Miss Haversham was no more frightening than my rather loopy and cantankerous auntie for much of this, before morphing into a gun toting arsonist... and Fionn Whithead is poor.

The 2023 adaptation of Charles Dickens heavy tale of Pip and the life lessons he learns along the way. A little tough to get into at first, but it gradually grew on me. It's a hard story to tell and finding that balance is difficult, because it's got to be slow and unpleasant for the wretched filth of humanity to shine through. But it gets there somewhat stumbling.

#revize Charles Dickens en sevdiğim yazar olmasa da en sevdiğim romanın sahibi ve bu açıdan benim için özel bir yere sahip. BBC ile Hulu'nun bir Dickens hikayesini tekrardan yayınlayıp üstüne de Olivia Colman'ı kadroya kattıklarını gördüğümde çok iştahlanmıştım ama şimdiye kadar gördüklerim hayal kırıklığı oldu. Bu tarz tarihi öykülerde karakter derinliği ilk aranan kriterlerden biri olur ama şimdilik Great Expectations'un eli çok zayıf.. Şimdilik 50 ile açalım, güncellenecek
