An accessible overview of some historically significant and defining artistic achievements. What makes it interesting is the underlying thesis that we can gain an enriched understanding of modern images by comparing these to ancient and even prehistoric images. Spivey suggests that many of the impulses and motivations for art-making are relatable, and I think it's very successful in making art history relevant to, potentially, a casual current day viewer.
