Woods is great here, the rare actor who can play drunk well, doubly impressive considering not even Gregory Peck ever had to overcome hagiography this persistently on-the-nose ("Bill, you're so good at getting people to open up!"). Would have preferred the pulverizing barrage of anguished drinking dialed down in favour of a greater focus on the group's beginnings and Wilson's dabbling in drugs and spiritualism but I guess I can't fault Hallmark for not producing THE MASTER
