Among other things on the possible co-existence of love and hate, and the craziness to which that leads, symbolised through three great central characters, which is not to say that that is a sufficient condition for understanding Balkan history. It's probably worth watching this TV version, which has the time to make slightly more sense than the film. The last episode is very strong. In tone, theme and perspective it is perhaps closer to SEVEN BEAUTIES than to anything else.
