Probably one of the best serials ever & a monster hit in Japan and later, Asia. Note is what is termed in Japan an "Asadora" so there are a huge number of short (15 mins) eps. The synopsis here is correct but too brief - the life (and rise) of an indomitable no-nonsense female from grinding poverty at the turn of the twentieth century to her latter days as owner of a Japan-wide supermarket chain in the 1980's. Simply a must watch. Due to the time covered 3 actors play Oshin, all are excellent
