The writing and adaptation in Pantheon works well. The problem is the execution. Knowing almost nothing about animation, I assume some of this is because of a lack of budget. A lot of the emotions trying to be conveyed here are severely hampered by the lack of facial animation. The show tries to make up for this with incessant, sentimental music. If anything, this made me appreciate anime's over-the-top emotional outbursts. While crude, they certainly are more able to convey emotion than this.

Good for an anime. As always in anime, the characters are a bit too cartoon-y and the themes are somewhat over-dramatic. However, this is kept in check enough to present an interesting story with decent scripting. The worst sin is the massive number of dramatic scenes involving confident monologues that lack of understanding of basic math and science from characters who are supposedly geniuses.

Solid show

(1st season) A much more realistic affair then most scifi - this, for better or worse, takes place in our world, not some neon rain-drenched borderline fantasy setting. While it still makes some assumptions some may balk at, the character drama is done well and it successfully explores the boundaries of what makes us human. It's also quite honest about how brutal and scummy even well-meaning tech companies can be.
