While the main chapters of this story are of course very well known, it succeeds in filling in less familiar gaps and providing more up-to-date information, and at the same time in showing just how much current scientists are able to discover from very old, very small fossil remains. Together with FIRST LIFE, this conveys quite a lot about the history of life from the earliest beginnings until today. A lengthy series on hominisation would be a great complement, but isn't Attenborough's thing.
