Judging from a couple of recent viewings, it seems that producers may have decided around 2014 that there is a risk of audiences becoming ho-hum about this kind of telemovie, and so ordering more over-the-top scripts, resulting in absurd plots that break generic rules about character behaviour and its consequences. Breaking the rules is not necessarily a bad thing, but in this instance the effort expended on devising a coherent narrative seems to have been minimal, to say the least.
