In 1926, famous evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson disappeared for six weeks. When she surfaced, she claimed that she had been kidnapped and held prisoner in Mexico. Once upon a time, before the Lifetime network, TV movies were sometimes quite good. This is one - very well-written and directed, and it looks great (it was no great surprise to see that the beautiful costuming was done by Edith Head). Dunaway's style of slightly-crazed histrionics seems to me perfect for the character, and Bette Davis is fantastic as her hard-as-nails mother. A reminder that scandals involving evangelists seems to be in the American DNA.
