Not an entirely successful adaptation, but then I can't really conceive of what an entirely successful Flannery O'Connor adaptation would be like. It's hard to say there's much wrong with Foote's teleplay, except that the cuts for timeslot purposes can't help but make the story feel more schematic than it reads. A more potent visual analogue for O'Connor's exacting yet mysterious prose would probably be preferred for the visions and the peacock, perhaps more than PBS in the '70s could provide
