Intended as the first installment of an anthology series that never developed, Welles used still photographs, blackouts, and voice-over narration, among other techniques, to create a totally new approach to TV drama.

His father was a well-to-do inventor, his mother a beautiful concert pianist; Orson Welles was gifted in many arts (magic, piano, painting) as a child. In 1931 he married, directed his first short, and appeared on radio for the first time. His first film to be seen by the public was Citizen Kane (1941), a commercial failure losing RKO $150,000, but regarded by many as the best film ever made. Many of his next films were commercial failures and he exiled himself to Europe in 1948.

Not a short film at all, but a pilot for a television show that was apparently never picked up. It's like a REALLY campy "Twilight Zone" episode. Even though he's "just" the narrator, Welles, is, as to be expected, completely and effortlessly the star--followed closely by the visuals.

The acting is subpar and the story's not that original, but the presentation totally overshadows those shortcomings. A very fun little film and it certainly would have been interesting to see Welles do more of this.
