Better than the films of Scorsese, Eastwood or Wenders in this series. Chronicles the rise & fall of the Beale Street scene through seemingly mundane & unrelated chapters following some ageing artists like Bobby Rush, B.B. King & Rosco Gordon. Despite this loose focus (or perhaps because of it) it almost indirectly manages to tap into some real joy & sadness that underline the music & its transition through political upheaval & commercialisation without any simplistic or contrived dramatization.
