The Round Tower

The youngest daughter of the Ratcliffe family feels alienated from her parents, who are more interested in their eldest daughter's upcoming marriage into one of their town's old families. A family friend, himself trapped in a loveless marriage, makes love to Vanessa and she becomes pregnant. Her parents are sure the father is an employee who hotly this and quits his job. But when he hears of the poor conditions she's living in he offers to marry her.
