This show has a close-knit cast and a deep sympathy for everyone who's struggling, even the bad guys. Riku threads the needle nicely between being a fun, upbeat character and being someone with a lot of insecurities. There's a good balance between the human level and the giant monster battles, and everyone gets their turn to do something astonishingly cool. And I feel like eps 14 and 15 tap into a very Japanese trauma in a way that allows an American to really feel it. This is the good stuff!!
