Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut by his father A. Bartlett Giamatti, who became President at Yale University, and mother Toni Marilyn, an English teacher. Origianlly a comedian, Giamatti went on to play small parts in several movies, such as the Negotiator and saving Private Ryan before taking the lead in such films as American splendor and, the critically acclaimed, Sideways. Giamatti is a commited Athiest although married to Jewish wife Elizabeth with their son Samual.
