Birdsong

Serra creates another dreamlike evocation of a long distant past, this time returning to a pre-Christian time, reimagining the story of the three wise men's legendary pilgrimage to Bethlehem. As with Don Quixote, Serra takes a minimal, broadly deconstructivist approach, finding humour and folly in the quest for greatness which is not yet known. Echos of Dreyer and Pasolini abound, but Serra is his own man, and his luxurious black and white imagery is frequently stunning.

Beautifully made, delicate film about the three wize men on their way to new born infant Jesus. With a lot of attention for composition and images.
