Baglama galore. A half-decent exposition of the diverse and glorious world of Turkish music (encompassing Istanbul's pop, rock and rap scenes as well as traditional musics of the Gypsy and Kurd minorities), if only because it is the only one of its kind. Ofcourse, Middle-Eastern cultures deserve far more popular interest than just the odd documentary film.

Nice snapshot of Istanbul's music scene early this millenium. Good for some nostalgia.

What a great way to be introduced to Istanbul! Not to the touristy and shiny side, but the dirty, chaotic side. And to the music of the city. Not pop, but rock, hip-hop and folk. The younger, independent musicians as well as the older greats, with exclusive performances and extremely sincere, at times political interviews. The editing has a flowing but springy rhythm, cinematically expert. With a narrative structure which makes sense of that all, you have one hell of a documentary.

"Akin discovers a place whose fundamental fabric is comprised of threads from America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East but which nonetheless exhibits its own distinctive identity." - Nick Schager
