The last time Otto Gebühr portrayed Frederick the Great. He was a specialist when it came to the king, playing his 16 times on screen! Knowing that, you'll understand you're getting the real deal here. A strong Nazi-era film. Perhaps not of the most dramatic, but always serious and deeply polished. There is always a unmentioned comparison with Hitler for films in this era, and you can feel some of the chills about it, but as long as you block that out, it's a quality film about Frederick II.
